Luce County Released Mugshot Meaning
A booking photograph is an image associated with intake by a custodial agency. It records that image event. It does not show whether the charge led to conviction, whether a case was dismissed, when the person left custody, or where the person went next. A separate release sheet or jail-register entry should provide the exit date, disposition, and destination if those fields are maintained.
Luce County adds a custody split. The Luce Sheriff may retain the arrest or commitment record, while a person held under the documented Alger County contract may have been physically booked at Alger County Jail. If Alger took the photograph, Alger may hold it. A state prisoner at Newberry Correctional Facility uses an MDOC image in OTIS, which is not necessarily the county booking photograph.
Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq., provides access to nonexempt public records held by public bodies. Access is not automatic for every part of every image record. An agency may apply lawful exemptions or redactions involving protected personal information, security, medical material, juveniles, witnesses, or an active investigation. Ask for all reasonably segregable nonexempt portions if a response is partial.

VINELink may show custody information and supported event options, but Michigan’s official material does not promise a photograph for every participating agency. It is also not a permanent photo archive. A VINE result or alert should be used to identify the reporting agency, then checked against the booking and release records.
No Luce County Mugshot App
No official Luce Sheriff jail-information app or photo-bearing release feed was found. The official sheriff page lists staff, contact details, office hours, and GovPayNow location codes. Its inmate-payment code is a payment function, not a custody lookup, photo archive, or proof that a person is physically held at the Luce address.
This absence matters because apps with generic jail or county names can appear official when they are not. An app should not be attributed to Luce County without an official agency link or publisher connection. VINEmobile is the statewide VINE notification client. It is not a Luce Sheriff roster app and should not be described as one.
The targeted photo request is more reliable. First determine whether Luce or Alger physically booked the person. Ask for the booking number and agency that created the image. Then request the photo tied to that precise booking. If staff route the request to another custodian, keep the response and redirect the request rather than assuming no photograph exists.
The official Luce Sheriff page is the proper starting point for current contact and service information. The page does not supply a recent-release photo list. Absence from that page says nothing about a named person’s release status.
Request a Luce County Booking Photo
A narrow written request gives the agency enough detail to locate the correct image without asking it to create a new explanation. Use the Luce County FOIA page and identify the sheriff record. Because contract detention may place the physical booking at Alger County Jail, copy Alger or ask Luce to identify the actual image custodian.
- Call Luce Sheriff and ask which facility physically booked the person. Provide the booked name, date of birth, approximate booking date, and case number when known.
- Obtain the booking number if staff can provide it. That number separates this image from other arrests or an MDOC photograph.
- Submit a request for “the booking photograph created during that booking and any record identifying its image date and booking number.”
- Request the booking or release sheet separately. Ask for the holding facility, release date and time, and disposition or transfer notation.
- If Alger created the image, direct the photograph request to Alger County Sheriff/Jail while keeping the Luce request for the arrest or commitment record.
- If access is denied in part, ask for the cited legal basis and all reasonably segregable nonexempt portions.
Luce County’s posted FOIA schedule allows copy charges of no more than $0.10 per letter or legal page, actual postage or media, and qualifying labor in 15-minute increments using the lowest-paid capable employee plus permitted fringe. A qualifying indigency affidavit waives the first $20. An estimate above $50 requires a 50 percent deposit, and full payment is due before delivery. Electronic delivery or inspection may reduce copying costs.

Luce County State Offender Photos
Michigan OTIS can display an offender image and image date for covered state cases. Search with the six-digit MDOC number when possible, or use a name and compare identifiers. The profile may also show Current Status, location, sentence blocks, parole dates, and discharge fields. Those fields help establish whether the image belongs to the correct person and record.
An OTIS image is an MDOC photograph. It may not be the photograph taken by Luce or Alger at a county booking. MDOC notes that some people who left before electronic photos or who have not been photographed will lack an image. The lack of a profile image does not prove that no county booking photograph exists.
The Michigan Sex Offender Registry can also show a photograph for a person legally required to register. Its scope is narrow. “Active” describes registration status, not the date of a Luce County release. “Incarcerated” is a custody signal at the time reflected. No registry result says nothing about a person who is not subject to registration.
When a state image is used to identify the person, preserve its label and date. Do not call it a county mugshot. Pair any release claim with Date Paroled, Discharge Date, or the physical jail’s exit record. An Earliest Release Date remains an eligibility date, not proof that the person left.
Luce County Mugshots in News
Official agency press releases and local reporting can publish incident-related images. Newberry News carries sheriff-log and corrections coverage, but news selection is not a complete booking archive. A story can help identify an agency, incident date, or case. It cannot establish a later release unless it cites a responsible source and the event is checked independently.
Commercial mugshot publishers and jail directories may copy old or unverified images. Some attach a release label without showing its source. Treat any such page only as a lead to an agency, booking number, or date. Do not pay for, rely on, or treat a removal offer as proof that the image or custody label is accurate.
A booking image can remain online after a charge changes, a case is dismissed, or a conviction is set aside. The source date matters. Compare the copied image with the official booking record and court disposition. For a release question, obtain the release sheet rather than inferring that the person is still held because a mugshot remains visible.
Note: News and copied images can point toward a record custodian, but neither source replaces an agency release record.
Luce County Set-Aside Photo Effects
Michigan calls expungement “setting aside” a conviction. A set-aside changes public court access under the governing statutes and court rule. It does not turn every copy of a booking image into proof that the underlying event never occurred. Requests and publication questions must be directed to the source that controls the official record.
The timing can depend on release and discharge. Under MCL 780.621d, a manual set-aside waiting period can run from the latest applicable event, which may include completion of imprisonment, probation, or parole discharge. A reliable release or discharge date can therefore be important to the timing analysis. Eligibility remains case-specific.
Once a conviction is set aside, MCR 8.119 restricts or redacts set-aside information in public court output, and Michigan statutes protect the nonpublic record. That can explain why an older public case result disappears. It is not proof that no booking or release occurred.
No specific Michigan anti-pay-to-remove statute was verified in the research. None should be claimed. Dates may differ without conflict. A court order, bond posting, jail exit, VINE event, and database update can occur at separate times.
